Best Offline Quest 3 Games: No Internet, No Account Sign-In Mid-Session

The best offline Quest 3 games are single-player titles that run entirely on the headset once installed: MECHA, UNDERDOGS, Moss, Red Matter 2, Into the Radius and the rest of the list below. Most single-player Quest games work without Wi-Fi once the headset has been online to download them and confirm the license; anything built around online play will not start. If you are packing a Quest 3 for a flight, a cabin, a dorm with locked-down Wi-Fi or a hotel with a bad connection, this is the list we would install before leaving.

How offline play works on Quest 3

Three things to know before you rely on any of this.

  1. Download and license first. The headset has to be connected at least once to install the game and verify you own it. After that, most single-player titles launch without a connection.
  2. Online-only games will not work. Gorilla Tag, Ultimechs, Forefront and Among Us VR need servers and other players. No Wi-Fi means no game.
  3. Test before you travel. Turn off Wi-Fi at home and launch each game once. It is better to find a surprise check-in on your couch than on a plane.

Every game below is single-player and playable offline in our testing or per the store description. Store pages change, so check before you buy.

MECHA

We built MECHA to need no internet at all. There is no account sign-in mid-session, no server and no online mode. You pilot a 200-ton flying mech with lean-based movement, raise an arm to shield, and grow with Gigaform across six modes including Deathmatch, Survival and Juggernaut. The career ladder from Rookie to All-Star, with sponsors and rival pilots, is all local. Verdict: the mech game we would pack for a trip, and yes, it is ours.

Mecha Force

Mecha Force is a single-player roguelike where you pilot an anime-style KYLIN mech from a cockpit and fight in melee. It is in Early Access and the store lists comfort as moderate, so it suits players who already have their VR legs. Verdict: a cheap, replayable mech game that does not care whether you have Wi-Fi.

The Thrill of the Fight

The Thrill of the Fight is single-player boxing and it is very intense. On a trip it doubles as your gym. You need standing space and a towel. Verdict: the best offline workout on Quest, as long as the room is big enough to throw punches.

Cubism

Cubism is a calm 3D puzzle game where you fit blocks into shapes. It is seated-friendly, quiet, and needs almost no space, which makes it ideal for an airplane seat or a bunk. Verdict: the puzzle game we recommend for travel more than any other.

Moss

Moss is a story-driven adventure that supports seated play, so it works in a cramped space. It has warmth and charm few VR games match. Verdict: the pick if you want something gentle for a long evening away from home.

Dreadhalls

Dreadhalls is dungeon horror in the dark, and a cabin with no signal is exactly where it is scariest. Expect artificial locomotion. Verdict: bring it if you like being frightened and skip it if you get queasy.

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters is arcade-sim dogfighting with a single-player campaign. The cockpit reference frame helps many people with comfort. Verdict: the offline flying pick if you want to shoot things.

Ultrawings 2

Ultrawings 2 mixes civil flying with dogfights across five aircraft, with a hand-operated cockpit and a 40 to 60 hour campaign. It supports seated play. That much content on one download is rare. Verdict: the best value per hour on this list for a long trip.

UNDERDOGS

UNDERDOGS is an arm-driven mech brawler roguelike set in an underground fight league. It is single-player, physically demanding and rated 4.8 from over 3,000 reviews at time of writing. Verdict: if you have space to swing, it is the best offline action game here that we did not make.

Vox Machinae (campaign)

Vox Machinae is sim-style cockpit mech combat. The multiplayer obviously needs a connection, but the single-player campaign added in 2022 is playable offline per the store description. It is deliberate, heavy, and supports seated play. Verdict: the offline pick for people who want a MechWarrior feel.

Red Matter 2

Red Matter 2 is an atmospheric single-player puzzle adventure and a slow burn that suits a quiet week away. Check the store page for the current price. Verdict: bring it for a long stay rather than a short flight.

Into the Radius

Into the Radius from CM Games is a slow, tense single-player survival shooter. It is a standing, roomscale game that wants space rather than a seat. Check the store page for the current price. Verdict: the deepest offline game here if you have the room and the stomach for it.

Why we wrote this

We are the two-person studio behind MECHA, and we designed it to work with no internet because we were tired of games that would not start on a plane. We play everything in this category and will keep this list current as store pages change.
