MECHA Game Modes Explained: Deathmatch, Survival, Juggernaut and Team Variants
MECHA ships with six game modes, all played solo against AI pilots, including Deathmatch, Survival, Juggernaut and team variants of the core rules. This guide explains the MECHA VR game modes one by one: what the goal is, what the AI does differently, and one tactic per mode built on the three tools every pilot has, lean movement, the arm shield and Gigaform. There is no online play in MECHA, so every mode here is you, your 200-ton mech, and a league of AI rivals.

How MECHA VR game modes fit into the career
The career ladder from Rookie to All-Star, sponsor missions, rival bounties and tournaments all send you into these modes with different stakes. A sponsor might want a strong Survival showing. A rival with a cash bounty might only turn up in Deathmatch. Learning each mode is how you climb. Read our MECHA beginners guide first if you are still learning to fly.
Two things are true in every mode. Movement is lean-based: your body is the flight stick, so you lean to strafe, dash and dodge, and a thumbstick is never required for flight. Defense is the arm shield: raise your arm and the shield deploys in that direction.

MECHA Deathmatch: most eliminations wins
Deathmatch is the purest of the MECHA modes. Every pilot in the arena is a target, and the goal is to finish with the most eliminations. The AI rivals fight each other as readily as they fight you, so the arena is a constant three-dimensional brawl.
The trap is chasing. Pilots who tunnel on one rival lose track of the two behind them.
Deathmatch tactic: lean off the line, then commit
Use lean movement to slide out of a rival's firing line the moment they lock on, then dash back in on your terms. Keep the arm shield up during the approach and drop it only when you fire. Save Gigaform for the moment two or three rivals are already trading fire with each other: tripling your size into an existing fight lets you collect eliminations that others started.
MECHA Survival mode: last as long as you can
Survival replaces the scoreboard with a clock. Waves of AI pilots keep coming, and the goal is simply to outlast them for as long as possible. Early waves teach you the arena, later waves punish any habit you have not fixed. You are not hunting, you are managing, because there is no round reset to save you.
Survival tactic: shield first, Gigaform late
Treat the arm shield as your primary tool here, not your backup. Face incoming waves with the shield raised and lean sideways to keep enemies in front of you rather than around you. Hold Gigaform until a wave feels like it is about to overwhelm you. Its size clears space and resets the fight, and using it early leaves nothing for the wave you actually needed it for.
MECHA Juggernaut: one oversized target, everyone hunting
Juggernaut takes the Gigaform power and makes it the whole point. One pilot in the arena becomes the oversized Juggernaut, and every other pilot hunts them. As the Juggernaut you dominate through size and firepower. As a hunter you are part of the pack trying to bring the big one down and take the role. You will spend time on both sides of the size gap.
Juggernaut tactic: fight size with angles
As a hunter, do not approach the Juggernaut head-on. Lean into a strafe and keep moving around it, so that its firepower is always pointed where you were. Raise the shield only for the moments you are crossing its line of fire. As the Juggernaut, the temptation is to stand still and swat. Instead, keep dashing so the pack has to reposition constantly.
Team variants: the same rules with an AI squad
The team variants put you in a squad with AI teammates against an opposing AI squad, using the same objectives as the base modes. To be clear, there is no online multiplayer in MECHA. Your teammates are AI pilots, and the mode plays as a squad fight. An elimination by a teammate counts for the squad, so setting up kills often beats taking them all yourself.
Team tactic: be the anchor
Let your AI teammates push and use your arm shield to hold a position they can fall back to. Lean to peel off any rival who is chasing a teammate, then dash back to your anchor point. Gigaform is a rally flag in team modes: trigger it when the squad is bunched together and the enemy will have to deal with a giant while your teammates clean up around you.
Picking the right mods for each mode
MECHA's mod system has real trade-offs, and modes reward different choices. A Survival build leans toward durability. A Deathmatch build can trade defense for speed. We go through the specific decisions in our MECHA mod guide. Across all six MECHA VR game modes, a mod that costs you a system you never use is a free upgrade.
FAQ
What is MECHA Deathmatch?
A free-for-all against AI pilots where the goal is the most eliminations. Every rival is a target and every rival is also fighting each other.
How does MECHA Survival mode work?
Waves of AI pilots keep coming and the goal is to last as long as possible. There is no scoreboard to win, only a run to extend.
What is MECHA Juggernaut?
One pilot becomes an oversized Juggernaut, tied to the Gigaform power, and everyone else hunts them. Bring the Juggernaut down to take the role.
Are the team modes online?
No. MECHA is single player only. Team variants are you plus AI teammates against an AI squad, and no internet connection is required.
Which mode should a new pilot start with?
Survival. The early waves are a low-pressure place to learn lean movement and the arm shield before you take those skills into Deathmatch. Our VR locomotion types guide explains why lean movement feels different from a thumbstick.
